Primiero and Vanoi: following the tracks of the Mazaròl

A circular itinerary that, departing from Fiera di Primiero, leads up to the discovery of the delights of this valley's cheeses. All this enriched by a pinch of magic from the legend of the Mazaròl, that joins the cheese’s history to the magic of the little red man that lived in the wood. If you desire to know the secrets of the local food, without following his tracks, which will unfortunately, conduct you to his cave, you can stop at the Caseificio Comprensoriale di Primiero. Here you can learn about the methods of production of the Nostrano di Primiero and of the Tosèla, a fresh cheese, and purchase an esteemed local honey produced by the El Rasabeck’s beekeeping. You can continue on the national road and, near Imèr, take the road for Passo Gobbera. Reaching Zortea, in the heart of the Valle del Vanoi, you can visit the Allevamento del Mazaròl, a little didactic farm specializing in goat cheese and mountain honey. In Canal San Bovo you can follow one of the many thematic itineraries of the Ecomuseo del Vanoi or venture along the Sentiero Etnografico through a series of routes between the village of Caoria and Malga Miesnòta. You can’t miss the numerous shepard's huts and the Segheria di Valzanca. During the return allow yourself time to relax in the historical centre of Imèr, Mezzano and Pieve and Transacqua typical rural villages with interesting historical traces.
