WINE AND FLAVOURS ROADS OF TRENTINO

Road of Wine and Flavours in the Avisiane Hills, Faedo, Cembra Valley
The Road of Wine and Flavours in the Avisiane Hills, Faedo and Cembra Valley is a track with a well defined historical and cultural perimeter. The Avisio stream is the main body of water; it has, during millennia of erosion, dug the hard porphyry rock. In the West, from the San Giorgio Gorge to the Faedo Hills, the landscape is characterized by the extreme western parts of the Atesina porphyry platform, whereas in the East the territory borders with the Fiemme Valley and is bordered in the South by the Lagorai Chain. There are many lakes and peat bogs which are very interesting from a botanical point of view; they fill the highest part of Dossone di Cembra. An important aspect of the living system in the Avisiane Hills and in Faedo is the presence of the maso, or mountain house, in most part now renovated, which witness an ancient phase of German colonization that peaked in the Middle Ages. The Road, between Lavis and Faedo follows the Claudia Augusta Road itinerary, which was a road of great political and commercial importance, a route linking the Latin and the German worlds. In the Cembra Valley, it is interesting to note the location of the towns on the border between countryside and wood on the alluvial deposits: an interesting example of symbiosis between man and nature and of rational occupation of the available space. There are wide spaces covered with vineyards in the hilly area of Lavis, Pressano, Faedo and Cembra Valley up to Faver and Segonzano. The upper part of the area is characterized by a wilder landscape, where the terraces once built for foraging are now employed to cultivate small fruits; efforts are now being made to introduce vineyards in the lower, sunnier parts.www.valledicembra.to
