Vallagarina's Roads of Wine and Flavours

Vallagarina, the southern part of the Adige river valley and the ancient Via Maestra (Main Road) connecting the north and the south of Europe have always been characterized by a vibrating cultural life. The first Road of Wine and Flavours to be acknowledged in Trentino is located in an area aided by a climate created where the Alps meet the plains and protected by the Garda Lake. Geographically, it includes the territory extending from Borghetto, on the border with the Verona province, to Aldeno; and connects 100 members with each other in a project of integrated tourism with the common goal of making the tourist discover not only Vallagarina's spots but especially its wine and food!
The wealth of soil and micro-climates has influenced the varieties of wine and food specialties; these specialties include a wine production boasting more than 40% of the the province's production, horse meat, vezzena, cheese from Monte Baldo, Castione's chestnuts and organic vegetables from Val di Gresta.
In Vallagarina vineyards, grown in tidy lines in a landscape of old towns and Medieval Castles, the spirit is calmed. Marzemino is the most typical wine produced, a gentle wine for antonomasia. History tells us it was one the most beloved wines at the Aubsburg Court, where Mozart probably enjoyed it. An old anecdote tells us the musician came across this kind of wine when he came to Rovereto in December 1769 for his first Italian concert. Mozart, in an exceptional testimonial, made this Vallagarina wine known making his Don Giovanni proclaim "Versa il vino, eccellente Marzemino!" (Pour me wine, excellent Marzemino).
